Dear Friends,
We are pleased to announce that the Rev. Carrie Schofield-Broadbent was elected March 25, 2023, as Bishop Coadjutor, and now serves as Bishop of the Diocese of Maryland (XV Bishop of Maryland). She was ordained and consecrated on September 16, 2023 at Washington National Cathedral, with Bishop Mary Gray-Reeves as the Chief Consecrator. After her consecration, she served as Bishop Coadjutor, working with the Right Rev. Eugene Taylor Sutton, and succeeded him as XV Bishop of Maryland on April 27, 2024.
We give thanks for Carrie and her willingness to serve our great diocese. We offer prayers for her and her family and gratitude for our Standing Committee, Bishop Search Committee, Transition Committee, diocesan staff, clergy, lay delegates, Bishop Bill Gohl who served as our preacher, and to the people of St. John’s, Ellicott City, who all worked together to hold this election.
Deeply committed to honoring the dignity of every human being, Bishop Carrie consistently attends to her own work around race, climate change, economic justice, and full inclusion of LGBTQAI+ persons and is committed to helping the Church grow in these areas. She identifies her own core values of ministry as: trust and relationships, truth and transparency, and compassion and faithfulness.
Bishop Carrie and her husband, Keith have two young adult children, Will and Kate. They have two dogs and enjoy traveling, camping, kayaking, and hiking together. Her hobbies include making pottery in a community studio, reading, growing houseplants, antique/thrifting and practicing yoga.
