The Diocese of Maryland has moved back into Phase Orange which allows us to Re-Gather in Christ Church for Worship beginning with Holy Week 2021. We return with seating limited to 17 individuals, spaced at least six-feet apart, or accommodating several couples of people who live in the same household for a maximum of 24 people including those who are leading worship and an usher. If there were to be more people than the allowed number, the Parish Hall will be arranged so that those who would like to may use a phone or tablet to watch the Live Stream with others. Members of our Vestry who are in church have volunteered to give up their seats and join the Parish Hall overflow crowd. All services in the future will be Live Streamed.
To attend worship in the church or the Parish Hall one must wear a mask (not a bandana or scarf), noting that the current CDC recommendation is to wear two masks if possible. If you forget to bring a mask, we will have extra masks on hand to accommodate you. There can be no handshakes or hugs of others while in the church, which includes no passing the Peace. And the No-Singing restriction is still in place due to the size of our sanctuary. It is also important for each person to sign-in when entering the church. Keep in mind the heat or air conditioning needs to be turned off during the service, the windows opened, and the overhead fans turned off, so be sure to dress accordingly.
Holy Communion will be celebrated on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Easter. Following Holy Week, the pattern will be Communion-in-Church the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of each month, Morning Prayer II Live Streamed Only on the 2nd and 4th Sundays (for now, no in-church worship on Morning Prayer Sundays). Communion will continue to be in one kind only, the consecrated bread, which will be in separate 1oz paper pill-cups that each communicant may take off of a tray in the back of the church on the way out. While entering and exiting the church it is important to remain at least six-feet apart from those in front of you. The Diocese asks us to maintain the No Coffee Hour before or after Church rule until we reach the next phase.
Be prudent. The infection rate is near 9% in Harford county as of 04/10/2021, and is increasing across the state of Maryland. We encourage everyone to continue Best Practices – wear one or two masks, practice social distancing, wash hands regularly with soap and water. We also encourage people to get vaccinated when it is available in your local. Once vaccinated it is important to continue Best Practices until the country reaches something like Herd Immunity. There are mutations of the virus in Maryland and across the country, and we are still learning just how each mutation interacts with the approved vaccines. Caution is advised. And if you show symptoms at all, please contact your physician as soon as possible. Together we can make it to the finish line!
